Future generations depend on us

My job is managing the safety, environmental and sustainability programs in North America, and it’s a job I take to heart. As a fourth-generation employee who started working at Danzer at age 17, I carry on an important tradition. Family and team members before me worked hard to build a successful company with an eye always toward protecting the environment, keeping our employees and community safe and preserving our forests. Now it’s my privilege to advance this legacy for the benefit of generations to come.

Customers count on me

My job is helping customers succeed, and that makes me happy to go to work every day. Since starting at Danzer as a veneer sales trainee after graduating from a wood technology technical school, I’ve learned a lot about log buying, veneer production and species varieties, yet it’s a never ending learning process. Due to the close cooperation with my colleagues, I have the opportunity to actively participate in the development of our organization in Salzburg. And I’ve learned a lot about my customers’ industries and businesses. I absorb all the knowledge I can so I can better answer questions, offer tailored solutions and make the customer experience as positive as possible.

Innovation never gets boring

My job at Danzer is very versatile – I work on process improvement, product development and process automation with colleagues in Germany, Czech Republic and North America. I play an active role in developing the innovative approaches that help our company continuously improve our product, our delivery and our ability to meet customer needs. I have a hands-on job that often takes me out of the office and into the production plants, running product tests and meeting with customers, suppliers and co-workers. My work is creative, sometimes very technical – but never boring.

I’m up to the challenge

I’ve procured logs my entire career. Right now I’m responsible for procurement of African species and European burls and I’m also log buyer in France. Over the past 20 years I’ve gained a lot of knowledge – and I’ve learned that there’s always more to know. Danzer offers many products made from a wide variety of species – that’s a big part of the value we bring to our customers. Interacting with suppliers, working closely with the procurement team, meeting often with sales, production and management … these are constructive parts of my job that help me help our company succeed.

Part of a team

I joined Danzer during construction of our dryer facility. After production began I became a dryer operator, and, as we’ve grown, I’ve taken on more responsibility. Today I lead 60 employees responsible for all drying production—and the quality of our finished product. Working with my team keeps me busy: I schedule staff for our three-shift operation; work with production managers to prepare the drying plan; coordinate with maintenance to assure our machines undergo scheduled repairs and regular inspections; and collaborate with HR to recruit new personnel. At Danzer, we respect each other and together, we do our jobs well.

New opportunities

I trained for my career at Danzer’s German veneer mills and came back to the newly opened Czech plant to help install the slicing equipment. At start I was a machine operator, and as operations expanded, I took on management roles. My time here has been satisfying—I’ve enjoyed open, friendly and loyal relationships with colleagues. They’ve taught me a lot and allowed me to grow and contribute in many ways. New product development is a keen interest: I’m excited about 3D-Veneer and how our ability to produce dimensional, organic shapes helps us deliver innovative, customized products to customers.
