Danzer Linea Birch Veneer Mirrors Light Design at Recently Opened Public Library Extension
Darlington, PA., April 2015 – In today’s architecture, lighting and the choice of materials play a key role. Recently opened Slover Memorial Library in Norfolk, VA links a 115-year old building with a light-flooded new seven-story glass walled addition. Natural light weaves through the artistic ceiling elements. Hardwood specialist Danzer’s Linea Birch veneer covers large areas of the library’s interior. The veneer’s warm color and consistent, unobtrusive texture harmonizes with the light design and supports the library’s objective to welcome local residents and visitors of all ages. All natural Danzer Linea veneer is easy to work with and available in a wide range of wood species.
The new Slover Memorial Library in Norfolk, VA is designed to meet the information and community requirements of the 21st century: In addition to books and online content, Slover Library offers places to relax with a magazine or newspaper, places to catch up with a friend and a place to meet for lunch. Basic materials like glass, metal and wood create a bright and friendly ambiance. The Danzer Linea Birch veneer featured throughout the library exhibits a consistent subtle grain structure supporting the design objectives of the library. The beautiful result would have been very hard to achieve with the originally specified rift cut Hard Maple veneer due to limited availability of the desired quality. “The Linea Birch was very easy to work with across the entire process: the lay-up was very easy and efficient; the finished product turned out beautiful", commented a project manager of Mortensen Woodwork, the millworker of the project.
Danzer Linea is a new high-quality alternative to rift cut veneers. Made from the real species, it has their look and physical properties. As a cut-to-size product, it is economical and easy to work with. It comes in extra-long lengths of up to 12 ft. Being an engineered wood, Danzer Linea is always consistent – easy to mix and match, reconfigure and reorder. It is available in many popular species, e.g. American Walnut, American Oak or European Larch fumed.
